“Enlightenment is absolute cooperation with the inevitable”  – Anthony De Mello

I took a picture of the sidewalk yesterday because I think it provides a nice analogy for accepting things as they are.

We try to tame the earth with concrete but the weeds keep coming.

In life, we try to tame people and circumstances. And we get annoyed and frustrated when the world doesn’t bend to our will.

Weeds are inevitable. Obstacles are inevitable.

Each day there are small things that frustrate me. And there are big things that worry me too. So I try to distract myself by keeping busy, going for pints, watching TV. But the weeds keep coming.

But really the answer is to accept inevitable. Sit with uncomfortable emotions. Reflect on challenging situations.

From there we can choose a mindful response.
